Fall 2020 Registration Info
Typically, we open registration for the fall season at the beginning of May, but in these uncertain times, we decided to hold off. Under the Governor’s plan to reopen the state (currently in Phase 2), soccer is classified as a contact sport. As such, soccer activities will be allowed, but limited to no-contact drills and training exercises only. No scrimmages, league games or tournaments may be held during the duration of this phase. This includes friendlies, intrasquad scrimmages or other arranged games.
MA Youth Soccer is hopeful that restrictions will lighten in Phase 3, and that either Phase 3 or 4 of the Governor's Re-Opening Plan will include the return of games.. As our hope is to have a full fall soccer season, we have decided to open registration today. Given the nature of this pandemic, plans may change at any time based on the most recent CDC and/or Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) guidelines. In the event that the fall 2020 season is cancelled in its entirety, Rutland Youth Soccer will refund 100% of registration fees.
Due to the pandemic, RYS had to make some difficult decisions this year. The registration process is different depending on the age of your child. Please refer to the following info:
U6 (Pre-K & K) – Programs will not be offered for these age groups this fall. Due to the nature of interactions at this age, we believe it will be extremely difficult to maintain proper social disctancing and manage the safety of players and coaches.
U8 (Grades 1 & 2)
– We will be offering a modified U8 program this fall. In past years this program offered two practices per week and a few Friday night games. In order to maintain appropriate social distancing based on MA Youth Soccer guidance, we will only have each child practice once per week this fall. Whether or not we have games will depend on guidance from state officials and MA Youth soccer. To

U10 through U14 (Grades 3 through 8)
– We will be offering our typical travel league program. Practice days and times will be decided by each coach. To

High School (Grades 9 – 12) – We are working with the other four Wachusett towns to create an exciting new HS aged league. Many of our towns scrape to pull together a team, so the 5 towns felt a collaboration will provide a league where we could better ensure a season where the kids can fully enjoy their experience, while empowering them to help build a league to their liking. An email with some preliminary information was sent to accounts for anyone that played in the U14 and HS age groups last fall.
Our registration window is tight, especially for our U10 to U14 travel teams. Although the first games aren’t scheduled until the end of August, RYS has to begin paying for the season this month:
Team fees, which includes ref costs, are due to Midland Area Youth Soccer (the league RYS plays in) in July
Player & coach fees, which includes insurance, is due to Mass Youth Soccer in July/August
Equipment & uniforms are ordered 4 to 6 weeks prior to the start of the season.
As of right now, these deadlines hold, and because of them, player/coach registration will be open from today through July 22. Midland Area Youth Soccer is currently polling their member towns with 3 options. One option keeps everything planned as is. The other two options delay the season start to September 12, one keeping 8 games meaning teams may have Saturday and Sunday games, the other reducing to a 6 game season with games on Saturdays. If either of these delayed start options get voted in, the registration deadline may be extended.
We have created a
COVID page on our website
to keep everyone up to date on the latest guidelines from MA Youth Soccer.
As part of the new guidelines for the fall season
, MA Youth Soccer is asking that each team assign a COVID officer who helps ensure kids are following safety guidelines so the coach can focus on running practice. Anyone who volunteers for this role must go through the CORI process for soccer. Please enter your interest as part of your child’s registration process.
